North Street Press Club: Vegan Restaurant Review

While Farmville, Virginia may not be on anyone’s top 10 list of vegan friendly communities, it is the home of Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College. With my older daughter at Longwood, I have found a few places with vegan options in town, the North Street Press Club being one example.

My younger daughter and I made a stop in Farmville on the way home from our recent whirlwind tour of Virginia to visit Virginia Tech. We made a giant circle as we traversed the state! To Blacksburg from the north via Charlottesville, home from the south via Farmville. My older daughter begged for a visit and a free meal.

Now, many people think that there are likely few vegan options at restaurants in a place as small as Farmville, but you may be surprised. The Press Club is one restaurant in town that has a specific vegan menu!

I ended up choosing the David Brooks, which is a Beyond burger with toppings and vegan cheddar. Served with a generous helping of French fries, it was just what I wanted after driving most of the day. This was really good, but on my next visit, I may try the hummus plate for a change.

The restaurant itself is nice. We could have sat outside on their patio, but chose to sit indoors, and were seated right next to the stage. Apparently, they have live music some nights, which would definitely be fun! There is a wide assortment of adult beverages on tap as well as plenty of options to make omnivores in your family happy. Our server was a student at Longwood majoring in the subject my younger daughter is interested in. They had lots to talk about!

After dinner, we explored the Longwood campus for a bit. My younger daughter had never seen it at night, and the school is on her short list of college choices for next year. In fact, she submitted her application soon after our return home. She has since been accepted and was invited to apply to the Honors College. We may have another Lancer in the family, following in the footsteps of both mom and big sister! We shall see.

If you are ever in town to visit Farmville, make sure you check out Green Front Furniture, which takes up the majority of the downtown storefronts, and the High Bridge Trail State Park! And for a beautiful, comfortable place to stay, I recommend the recently renovated Hotel Weyanoke

There are other restaurants with vegan options in Farmville that I hope to review soon!

As always, I hope you all are safe and healthy.
